Jameson Williams Cleared in Assault Investigation

Authorities have officially closed an assault investigation involving Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams, concluding that there is no basis for criminal charges. The decision follows a collaborative review by the Novi Police Department and the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office regarding an incident reported on August 6.

The inquiry gained public attention in September, leading to a police visit to the athlete’s residence on September 10. According to Jeff Wattrick, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, investigators conducted a comprehensive review of digital evidence and witness statements. They also engaged directly with the individual who initially brought the allegation forward.

“The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office takes all allegations of domestic violence seriously,” Wattrick stated. “While this matter involves a public figure, it was handled with the same consideration as any other.”

Williams has consistently maintained his innocence throughout the process. His legal representatives issued a firm denial, characterizing the claim as “baseless.” The defense team noted that they proactively provided evidence to prosecutors intended to challenge the credibility and context of the accusation. They further emphasized that the wide receiver remains fully focused on his professional commitments with the Lions.

Despite the resolution on the legal front, the NFL may still choose to conduct its own internal review. League protocols allow for potential disciplinary action regardless of the outcome in the criminal justice system. While the Detroit Lions organization has acknowledged awareness of the situation, they have declined to provide further public commentary.

Williams, who was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has been a key contributor to the Lions' offense. He is currently coming off a career-best season, having recorded 65 receptions for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025. Through the opening three games of the current season, he has already logged 127 yards on 10 catches.
