The title ALOUD! serves as a commentary on the creative process, specifically addressing the tension between feeling restricted and the necessity of artistic expression. According to Daye, the record explores the shift from seeking industry approval to embracing one's own voice. “I used to think I wasn’t allowed to do what I wanted. Now I'm screaming,” he stated regarding the project's thematic core.
The 15-track collection features a diverse array of collaborators, including Pusha T, Muni Long, and Leon Thomas, who previously joined Daye on the single “Fly U Out.” The album also highlights contributions from Akeem Ali and the Atlanta-based rock outfit The Paradox. Alongside the announcement, Daye released “Talk to Me,” a new track co-written by the artist with Frank Brim and Dimitri McDowell.
“Talk to Me” centers on a desperate attempt to salvage a fading relationship, opening with a poignant voicemail sequence that underscores the distance between the two characters. The song follows the release of the album's lead single, “Nowhere Fast.”
ALOUD! follows the success of his 2024 project Algorithm, which featured the Grammy-winning track “That’s You.” Daye has been prolific recently, appearing on Victoria Monét’s new album Frequency of Love and collaborating with Leven Kali and Camper.
