PJ Morton Announces Double Album ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’

Grammy-winning singer and musician PJ Morton has officially announced his upcoming project, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, scheduled for release on June 19 via Morton Records/SRG-ILS Group. The ambitious 18-track double album serves as a musical exploration of duality, split evenly between R&B and gospel influences.

Reflecting on the creative process, Morton shared the inspiration behind the project: “I’d always been made to choose. Growing up in church, I loved gospel music. You could feel it in your soul. But R&B and soul music, that got me too.” He continued, “There was always an unspoken rule that you had to choose one or the other. But is that a true reflection of life? Are we all one thing all the time? I didn’t want to choose this time. I’m both Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.”

The album features the previously released singles “Mutual” (R&B) and “Mercy” (gospel), setting the tone for the two distinct sonic landscapes.

According to the official tracklist, the Saturday Night portion of the record will include collaborations with Keyon Harrold and Rukhsana Merrise, while the Sunday Morning side remains a solo endeavor. This release marks a significant milestone for Morton, serving as his first project following his new collaboration and label partnership deal with SRG-ILS Group.

The title of the album mirrors Morton’s 2024 memoir, further grounding the music in his personal narrative of unity, independence, and introspection. As he continues his artist evolution, Morton remains committed to bridging the gap between his spiritual roots and his soulful contemporary R&B sound.
