NAACP Image Awards: Victoria Monét, Chris Brown Among Winners From Night One
The NAACP announced the first slate of winners in the non-televised categories for the 55th NAACP Image Awards on Monday night (March 11). Actor Khleo Thomas hosted the virtual ceremony, which was streamed on the Image Awards’ official website.
Victoria Monét and Chris Brown both won two trophies in the recording category. Monét won Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Album for her debut, JAGUAR II. Monét’s Image Awards come a month after winning three Grammys, including Best New Artist and Best R&B Album.
As for Brown, he won Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Contemporary) for his No. 1 radio hit “Sensational” featuring Davido and Lojay, and Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional) for his appearance on Ciara‘s “How We Roll.”
R&B superstar Usher, who headlined the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show, won Outstanding Male Artist for his single “Good Good” with Summer Walker and 21 Savage.
The NAACP will continue to announce winners in the non-televised award categories virtually until March 13. On March 14, they will hold an Awards Dinner and Program, hosted by Sheri Shepherd, where Frankie Beverly will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Then, on March 15, there will be a fashion show, hosted by Brandee Evans, where June Ambrose will be honored with the NAACP Vanguard Award for Fashion.
Hosted by Queen Latifah, the 55th NAACP Image Awards airs Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m. on BET and CBS. Legendary R&B group New Edition will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame. They will join icons like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Little Richard.
“It is our distinct honor to celebrate New Edition and Frankie Beverly–two musical icons that have been instrumental in shaping our cultural landscape with their remarkable talent and enduring influence,” said NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson. “We recognize the power of their artistry in showcasing the enduring power of Black excellence in the arts.”
