Aaron Frazer, a prominent voice within the progressive soul collective Durand Jones & The Indications, is returning to the spotlight with a fresh solo endeavor. The singer and drummer has confirmed that his upcoming EP, Corners, is slated for an October 30 release via Dead Oceans.
Regarding the inspiration behind the project's title, Frazer explained that the creative process involved significant movement. “As the project progressed, I found myself traveling in LA, between studios in South Central, Riverside, Pasadena, and Lincoln Heights. It felt like I was traveling to every corner of LA and collaborating with people all over the world. So when it came time to pick a name, CORNERS felt like a natural choice,” he shared.
The EP features a collaborative spirit, drawing on the talents of his bandmate Blake Rhien, alongside studio veterans including Kelly Finnegan, Gabe Roth, Anthony Masino, Mayer Hawthorne, and Tommy Brenneck. Frazer described the sessions as a liberating experience, noting that the EP was “a joy to make with no pressure, no timing it around a grand tour, with no goal other than to make songs I love with people I love.”
Alongside the announcement, fans can experience the vintage soul sound of the new track, “Paint The Picture.” The song highlights Frazer’s signature falsetto, set against a backdrop of gossamer drums, resonant bass lines, and dusty guitar textures. Lyrically, the track explores themes of vulnerability and the willingness to pursue love, with Frazer crooning, “You paint the picture / That you’re dreaming of / I’m just a color / On your canvas of love.”
This release follows the previously unveiled “It’s A Shame,” a track born from the frustration of recurring heartbreak. Frazer revealed that the recording was largely captured on an iPhone, proving that high-quality artistry can be achieved with minimal tools and the right creative partners. Corners serves as the successor to his 2024 sophomore album, Into The Blue, and continues his momentum following the release of Durand Jones & The Indications’ 2025 project, Flowers.
