Taylor Swift Gave Ice Spice This Invaluable Advice For Sustained Musical Success
Ice Spice and Taylor Swift‘s friendship has become one of the hottest and most intriguing topics among fans of both artists over the past year. The two have performed and attended live events together on multiple occasions, resulting in both Spice and Swift being probed for insights into the innerworkings of their relationship.
During a recent interview with Billboard for the publication’s March 2 issue, the Bronx rapper shared the best piece of advice she’s learned from Swift thus far. According to Ice Spice, the megastar’s biggest tip was to keep her focus on her craft and that her hard work will ultimately pay off in her favor.
“When I was in the studio with Taylor, like, I’ll never forget that,” the breakout star revealed to the outlet. “She told me, ‘No matter what, just keep making music and everything’s going to be fine.’”
In May 2023, Ice Spice appeared on the remix to Swift’s hit single “Karma,” which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked the pair’s first collaborative effort to date. “I started crying when I heard about it,” Spice said of the collab during an appearance on The Today Show. “I was like, ‘No, you’re lying. That’s not real!’ I was so emotional, it was like tears of joy, of course. But, just grateful — iconic.”
Swift, who identified herself as a big fan of Ice Spice’s while describing their collaborative chemistry as “natural,” touched on what endeared her to the hitmaker in a statement to Variety in September 2023. “I relate to Ice in many ways, but I think her dedication and focus is what blew me away from the very start,” Swift said at the time.
“She’s extremely professional without being cold. Playful and fun without ever taking her eye off the prize. She knows what is and isn’t ‘her’ and sets those boundaries with grace. She studies the industry and other artists’ careers but is very clear about charting her own definitive, original path. It’s her ability to carefully find that balance that impresses the hell out of me.”
Ice Spice and Taylor Swift previously made headlines with their appearance at this year’s Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
In addition to her bond with Taylor Swift, Ice Spice also spoke with Billboard about the pending release of her debut studio album, Y2K, which she considers some of her “best work” to date. “It’s not going to be too long,” the “In Ha Mood” creator said of the album’s tracklist. “It’s going to be sweet and to the point.”
