Premiere: Craig David Journeys Through Time With Younger Self For “In Your Hands” Video

Craig David has ended his two-year musical hiatus with the arrival of his new single, “In Your Hands.” The deeply emotional record that is a charming fusion of gospel and R&B with a country twang is somewhat of an ode to his inner child and VIBE is debuting the heartfelt music video.

In the Lx-directed visual, Craig reflects on his journey, beginning with his debut album, Born To Do It. He then transports back into time and witnesses his younger self being carefree, in search of audacious joy with the help of music. Towards the end, he stumbles upon his debut album and is brought back to the present day.

“‘In Your Hands is such an important song for me as I wanted to shine a light on how truly special we all are, especially when we allow our inner child to play, that part of us that holds the true meaning & joy to life,” the 43-year-old shared in a statement.

Craig described the creative process as one of his most challenging experiences since working with Sting on “Rise & Fall,” noting, “It was so important for me to land each part of the song to honour the simple, yet powerful sentiment of the chorus.”

“Having grown up listening to Craig David getting to work alongside him feels like an incredible full-circle moment,” Lx added about the video and their collaborative process. “From paying homage to his ‘7 Days‘ video through little Easter eggs to collaborating on the idea and coming up with a narrative following a younger version of him and his love for music – It’s been an honour to work with Craig and his team. We wanted to make this video vibrant, nostalgic and youthful. A young child discovering their favourite song that they can’t get enough of. Something we can all resonate with till this day.”

Ahead of this year’s Lovers & Friends Fest cancelation, Craig told VIBE that even with the resurgence of his classics and forthcoming releases, he’s just as eager and excited as he was when he first hit the scene.

“When we tune into our inner child and we tune into the reason we got into anything, it brings back that sort of sense of joy and magic and aspirations and inspirations,” he said. “And the world is quite dreamy […] I feel like those inner child moments are really important to tap back into. Craig [today] can come and have fun because I’ll protect [my younger self] in places where [he] may have not felt protected before. I’ve got that. But in terms of the other side, which is like the inner child, you could go play. Even in the hard times, just find a moment to play. Do something that you used to do that sweetens your spirit.”

Craig David will kick off the UK leg of his Commitment Tour in February 2025.
