Timbaland Flips Chrisean Rock’s “Hood Gospel” Snippet Into New Song Using A.I.
Timbaland continues to make waves with his embrace of artificial intelligence after transforming a snippet of Chrisean Rock‘s voice into a complete song using the polarizing technology.
The producer’s new “collaboration” was birthed after coming across a clip from a recent podcast interview the rapper did with Pastor Jamal Bryant, which saw her revealing her plans to incorporate more spirituality into her music.
Revealing his take on Rock’s forthcoming “hood gospel” sound in a video on Instagram, the Virginia native expressed the inspiration he felt after hearing the clip.
Describing Rock’s words as “touching,” Timbaland shared that the thought of him flipping Rock’s preview was spurred by him having an idea that he wanted to get out, hence his artificial creation.
After sharing the song with his followers and other viewers, Timbaland simply said, “I rest my case,” a reference to the controversy surrounding him implementing artificial intelligence into his own artistry and production. “I don’t know what to tell you,” he added.
While a number of his musical peers have been outspoken regarding their reservations about artificial intelligence being used in music, Timbaland has positioned himself as an early adopter, as he’s voiced his intent to capitalize on the benefits of the technology.
“It’s going to really be a new way of creating and a new way of generating money with less costs,” the Verzuz co-founder, 51, explained back in 2023. “I’m already here. This is what I’m doing. I’m going to lead the way.”
Timbaland also argued that the Hip-Hop industry should become more knowledgable about the rise and innerworkings of artificial intelligence, rather than dismissing it outright. “I don’t want to be afraid of what’s going on,” he added. “I want to be the guy to figure out a solution.”
