Victoria Monét Talks ‘Jaguar II (Deluxe)’ Album
Victoria Monét will be spending a little more time in the jungle. The R&B sensation has confirmed her Jaguar II (Deluxe) album is on the way.
The album, an expanded edition of her Grammy-winning LP Jaguar II, will include her freshly released single “SOS (Sex on Sight),” featuring Usher.
“‘SOS (Sex on Sight)’ is about desire. It’s about the urgency you feel when you need some love, physical touch and quality attention!” Monét shared.
“Sometimes that desire can feel as urgent as being rescued from a natural disaster, or in this case, rescued from your own sensual urges. Just like a storm, SOS summons and forewarns a lover of the rainfall that is to come and welcomes the beautiful relief from that desire. It feels romantic, playful, sultry and direct. Based in fantasy and the warmest tones of R&B. It feels timeless and we hope you enjoy the escape!”
In a recent interview with Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1, Monét shared details about her forthcoming deluxe album.
“There’s new songs. It’s all new songs, and [I am] working on a remix of something, but for now, it’s just new ones,” Monét confirmed. “It could be considered like an EP because there’s at least five more songs.”
Monét also revealed that she has another collaboration with Usher. “It’s coming in the future,” she assured Francis. “I don’t know when, but there’s another song.”
She continued, “So we were working together on that song. He came by the studio to work more on that. And when he got there, I was working on ‘SOS,’ but I just had the hook only. So he was like, ‘Let me hear what you’re working on.’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ Nervous. So I play it, and then after the hook goes off, he starts mumbling a melody. I was like, ‘Hmm.’ And me and DJ Camper, the producer, looked at each other and we were like, ‘Do you want to just go in? Maybe just try some stuff?’
So he goes in the booth and starts this rap part, and then he comes out and we write a few lyrics to that. And then he has to go, he’s like jet-setting somewhere else. Then he finishes his parts in Atlanta. We were like, at one point, ‘Do we do both of these songs or do we have to choose one? What’s the protocol?’ But it just felt so special and so organic so that we just were like, ‘Let’s rock with both.’”
While Jaguar II (Deluxe)‘s release date has not been confirmed, the album is set to arrive this year via RCA Records.
The standard version of Jaguar II was released Aug. 25, 2023, via RCA Records. The album included the singles “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye, “Party Girls” featuring Buju Banton, “On My Mama” and “Alright.”
The project, a sequel to 2020’s Jaguar, debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, marking Monét’s first top 10 on that chart.
Monét supported her album on her sold-out The Jaguar Tour, which was launched at the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C.
Jaguar II scored Monét her first three Grammys, including for Best R&B Album, Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical), and Best New Artist.
At the 2024 BET Awards, Monét won the BET Her Award and Video of the Year for “On My Mama.”
Additionally, at the 2024 MTV VMAs, which airs Sept. 11, Monét is up for MTV Push Performance of the Year and Best R&B (“On My Mama”).
Monét will perform at the 2024 ONE Musicfest in Atlanta this fall. The two-day festival takes place Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 at Piedmont Park. Jill Scott, Monica, Keyshia Cole, Cardi B, and more are also on the bill.
