The Internet Confirms New Album Arriving in 2027
The Internet has officially announced that their highly anticipated fifth studio album is slated for release in early 2027.
The wait for new music from The Internet is finally nearing its end. During a recent appearance on The New York Times’ Popcast podcast, band members Syd, Steve Lacy, and Matt Martians confirmed that they have been actively working on a follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2018 project, Hive Mind.
“We’ve been working on it, on and off, for four or five years,” Martians explained during the discussion. “We’ve just been in and out of the studio and it just built to this moment. We didn’t plan for it to be almost finished around this [solo album] situation. We want to do things that aren’t money plays with the Internet. That’s part of the reason why we did our solo thing, so when we come to the Internet, we can do things we think are cool.”
The trio confirmed that the upcoming album is currently scheduled for an early 2027 release. While the full project remains on the horizon, Steve Lacy hinted that fans might get a taste of the new sound even sooner. “If you’re lucky, I mean, maybe a song. That would be fun,” he teased.

Regarding the creative process, Syd noted that the band relies on a shared sense of excitement to determine what material fits the group’s identity versus their individual solo work. She also revealed that the production is a truly collaborative effort, featuring contributions from the entire band, including beats from Steve Lacy and herself, alongside creative sampling from Matt Martians.
In a separate update provided to Dazed, Syd emphasized that the album is foundationally complete. She credited Matt Martians with taking the lead on songwriting duties while the rest of the group balanced their respective solo endeavors. “Honestly, this album is going to be one for the books,” she promised.
The announcement comes on the heels of a busy period for the members, who all released solo projects in July 2026. With Syd’s Beard, Steve Lacy’s Oh yeah?, and Matt Martians’ recent work, the group is now shifting their focus back to their collective sound. While no specific tour dates have been announced, the band is expected to hit the road in 2027 to support the new record.
