K. Michelle Announces Debut Country Album ‘Jesus & Whiskey’
R&B powerhouse K. Michelle is set to release her long-awaited debut country album, ‘Jesus & Whiskey,’ this October.
R&B powerhouse K. Michelle’s longtime dream to release a country album will become a reality this year. The Memphis singer has officially announced her first country project, Jesus & Whiskey, which is scheduled for release on October 16 via Real Outlawz Records/BBR Music Group.
She co-wrote the nine-track offering alongside an impressive roster of songwriters, including ERNEST, Jordan Dozzi, Rocky Block, Kelly Sheehan, Justin Wilson, Jamie Moore, Ant Clemons, David “Messy” Mescon, Emily Landis, Felly, George Birge, Kameron Glasper, Kristian Bush, Lalo Guzman, Thomas Edwards, and Tomy Gé.
Along with her album announcement, K. Michelle unveiled the official cover art, which depicts two versions of her — one clad in a white gown, watering her other self, who is surrounded by a white picket fence and flowers.
“I’m watering myself. I’ve had to dig into myself. I’ve had to hype myself up. I’ve had to, even in this long release, as I’m terrified, I have to look in that mirror and say, ‘You’re going to be okay’ and ‘You can’t define my box.’ You can’t define what my fairytale looks like inside. That’s what the album cover’s about.”
Produced by Kristian Bush, Jesus & Whiskey will include the lead single, “Jack Daniel’s,” and the newly shared title track. In the latter song, K. Michelle sings about how brown liquor and faith work in tandem to get her through life — the best of both spirits. “I need Saturday night just like Sunday morning / From my point of view, hell, they’re just as important,” she sings.
“Jesus & Whiskey” arrives a year after “Jack Daniel’s,” which was released following her new deal with BBR Music Group. Speaking on “Jack Daniel’s,” she noted, “This is me coming home. Country is in my blood. I was raised on southern soil in Memphis, Tennessee, where soul and country grew from the same roots. This new music is a celebration of where I come from — the pride, the bittersweet and the whiskey-soaked truth of it all.”
