Daley Announces First Album in Nine Years, ‘Strange Nature’

British R&B singer Daley has officially revealed details regarding his long-awaited third studio album. The upcoming project, titled Strange Nature, is scheduled for release on September 18 via Texx7 Records and SRG-ILS Group, marking his first full-length effort in nine years.

Reflecting on the creative process behind the album, Daley shared, “Naming the album Strange Nature was an acknowledgment for me that life does not always unfold in ways we can predict, hope or expect. Ideally, I wanted the title of my first album in some years to reflect growth, an internal flourishing, all of these positive, optimistic things. But in my soul, I knew that was only half of the reality of the process.”

He continued, “Love, beauty and optimism often existed alongside uncertainty, self-doubt, sadness, and things I couldn’t control. The strange isn’t good or bad, it’s equal parts beautiful and ugly — and for me a weight is lifted by accepting that we are not always going to understand the nature of things, as long as we continue to learn and grow through them.”

Strange Nature will feature 10 tracks, including the previously released singles “Lavender” and “Side.” The project also includes the new collaboration “Headlights,” featuring Marsha Ambrosius, which arrived on September 4. This track serves as a reunion for the two artists, marking their first collaboration since the 2012 ballad “Alone Together” from Daley’s debut EP, Those Who Wait. The album further benefits from the musical contributions of Robert Glasper, Keyon Harrold, and Yussef Dayes.

To support the release, Daley will embark on a 27-city U.S. headlining tour beginning September 16 in St. Louis. The tour will include stops in major markets such as Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

This new project follows his 2017 release, The Spectrum, which featured the Jill Scott-assisted duet “Until The Pain Is Gone.” Regarding the thematic scope of his previous work, Daley noted that he aimed to capture a wide range of musical expressions, from darker, spacey R&B to feel-good anthems, ultimately creating a comprehensive “musical spectrum.”
