Playboi Carti Finally Confirms ‘I Am Music’ Release Date

Playboi Carti has had the unique honor of being one of the most anticipated artists to release their next album, yet simultaneously one of the most elusive. At long last, the Atlanta rapper has confirmed when his forthcoming LP, I Am Music, will be shared with the world.
It took just one tweet containing one word for the enigmatic artist to send the world into a frenzy. “Friday,” he wrote in all caps on X this past Wednesday (March 12). He coupled that with an Instagram post where a bald British man yelled, “New Carti album this Friday!” Needless to say, the moment arrives on Friday (March 14).
Though Carti hasn’t shared a cover art or tracklist himself, DJ Akademiks rattled off several tweets describing the album after getting an exclusive listen from the “All Red” rapper himself. The media personality confirmed that Future, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, and The Weeknd will all be featured on the project. He also hinted at a major guest appearance that he did not want to reveal on a recent stream, saying that he was “talking that sh*t” which has led many to believe it will be Kendrick Lamar dissing Drake once again.
“CARTI SAVED 2025,” DJ Akademiks wrote in another tweet. “FRIDAY YOU WILL SEE. PIN THIS TWEET TO REMIND URSELF TO TELL ME I WAS RIGHT.” That’s a bold statement given the fact that artists like Lil Baby, Central Cee, The Weeknd, Drake, and PARTYNEXTDOOR have all released projects this year, but it is par for the course for Akademiks.
I Am Music will mark Playboi Carti’s first album release since 2020’s Whole Lotta Red. The cult favorite came out on Christmas 2020 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In the ensuing years, he has mostly made his presence felt via Instagram and YouTube-exclusive releases or features on other people’s records.
Last year, he joined Future, Metro Boomin, and Travis Scott on “Type Sh*t.” He also appeared on “Carnival” with Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, and Rich The Kid. Earlier this year, he joined Latto on a new version of “Blick Sum,” a track that he was originally supposed to be on from her August 2024 album Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Watch the video below.
