Playboi Carti Calls Shenanigans On His Album’s First Week Sales, Says He Sold This Many

Playboi Carti has taken issue with how sales reports about his latest album, MUSIC, are being calculated.

The rapper, who is currently riding high from the release of his third studio album, has disputed a report from Billboard claiming that MUSIC moved approximately 298,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

Carti took to social media to attempt to correct the alleged miscalculation, as he claims that the album actually accounted for nearly 25,000 more units than reported.

In various posts on X, some of which appear to have been deleted, the hitmaker wrote that MUSIC actually sold 320,000 equivalent album sales in its first week, as multiple outlets reported that the album tallied 302,000 album equivalent units from streams alone.

Hits Daily Double previously reported that MUSIC was expected to move 250,000 album-equivalent units. However, those projections didn’t include physical sales of the album.

At the time, a social inquired why physical sales from CD editions and merchandise bundles on Carti’s official website weren’t included in those reports.

Social media outlet Hip Hop All Day pointed out that Hits Daily Double’s and other platforms’ sales projections usually include such metrics, deeming their calculations regarding MUSIC as unusual. “Not a clue, they never report the sales like this, seems odd,” the outlet wrote in response.

Carti himself also chimed in, sharing Hip Hop All Day’s post on his own account, agreeing that “IT IS ODD” how the sales figures for his latest album have seemingly been misrepresented.

Released on March 14, MUSIC debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking his second consecutive album to top the chart. His previous album, Whole Lotta Red, also reached that summit in 2023, accounting for over 100,000 album-equivalent units sold during its first week of release.

The album, which includes features from Kendrick Lamar, Future, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Jhené Aiko, Skepta, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign, and Young Thug, became the most-streamed studio album in a single day on Spotify in 2025.

It is currently projected to maintain its spot atop the Billboard 200 in its second week of release.
