Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Could Potentially Be Nominated For A Grammy

Kendrick Lamar‘s smash single “Not Like Us” could potentially net the rap star another Grammy, as the song is likely to be up for consideration ahead of next year’s award show.

During an interview with TMZ, Harvey Mason Jr., Recording Academy CEO, discussed the success of “Not Like Us” and the chance that it could be eligible for nomination at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

“Obviously, it’s a hot record, it’s amazing artistry,” Mason Jr. said of the chart-topping diss track. “Great writing… Incredible.”

Mason Jr. also pointed to Lamar’s history with the Recording Academy, as he’s received numerous wins in various categories over the years. “You got an artist that’s been nominated before,” the CEO said. “He’s been successful with the organization… I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be.”

According to Mason Jr., the record’s relevancy across the musical landscape and pop culture only strengthens its odds of potentially earning a nomination. “It’s impactful on so many levels,” he told the outlet. “I like to believe the Academy members recognize that.”

When asked if the Recording Academy would ever consider creating a Best Diss Song category, Mason Jr. found the suggestion amusing and added that, “Anything is possible.”
