Ice Spice Highlights Birth Year With Debut Studio Album ‘Y2K,’ Shares Cover Art And Release Date
Almost two years after the release of her smash hit “Munch,” Ice Spice is ready to drop her debut studio album, titled Y2K.
The Bronx-bred rapper, who was born in the year 2000, took to Instagram to make the announcement, dropping the album’s cover art, as well.
“HIIIII >.< Y2K ☆ THE ALBUM WILL BE DROPPING JULY 26TH !!!!,” she captioned the cover reveal, which shows Spice facing a wall and looking over her shoulder towards the camera, highlighting her derriere in a pair of denim shorts. She stands outside of a fictional train station in New York City, with “Y2K” graffiti printed on a trash can while her name is sprawled across the cover in what appears to be her signature with a black marker. Check out the cover below.
While her sound is heavy on the drill, she also explained that her desire to reach massive success requires that she step out of her comfort zone, meaning fans can expect more than drill bops on her debut album.
“For me personally, I think I have passed that,” she said of her drill roots. “I do want to be a mainstream artist. I want diamond records and plaques and Grammys. So I think in order to get that, you do have to surpass just one subgenre.”
Ice Spice dropped several loose singles throughout 2021, but it was her August 2022 drop, “Munch,” that put her on the industry’s radar. This was followed by “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood,” before she hopped on three highly-successful collaborations in “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress, and both “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj, for which she received a Grammy nomination. Her debut EP, Like..? dropped in January 2023, featuring the aforementioned singles and her hit, “Deli.”
Thus far, Spice has released three singles from her debut album, including “Pretty Girl,” “Think U the Sh*t (Fart)” and her latest, “Gimme A Light.” Check out the video below.
