Gunna Reconnects With His Hometown In New “Back In The A” Music Video
Gunna had been written off for almost a year after taking an Alford plea in the YSL RICO case, being labeled a snitch, and being cast aside by a lot of his former collaborators. The 31-year-old was welcomed back to Atlanta with open arms during a recent show, and documented the experience in his new “Back In The A” music video.
The visual opens with the crowd at State Farm Arena showing their adoration for the hitmaker during his June 11 performance. The camera pans to him staring out into the audience with joy and, seemingly, disbelief at how much love the fans showed him. Throughout the Leff-directed video, there are cinematic views of Atlanta staples such as Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Nobu, Magic City, and more. They also make it a point to show more than the luxuries and tourist attractions, with scenes of gas stations, liquor stores, and children playing outside.
“And I’m right back in the A/ Smooth, I ain’t leavin’ no trace/ Racks on me, racks on me, fresh out the Chase/ You got it off the display, I got it from the runway/ I got it, f**k it, I go Arthur Blank,” Gunna raps in the chorus. Interestingly, his chorus follows the same cadence as “Rodeo Dr” from his 2023 album A Gift & A Curse. Lyrically, the two records juxtapose how he initially stayed away from his hometown upon leaving jail before letting time pass and receiving a hero’s welcome in the A.
“Back In The A” is part of Gunna’s latest album One Of Wun. The 20-track LP featured Offset, Roddy Ricch, Normani, and Leon Bridges. One Of Wun sold 90,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, outpacing his 2023 album A Gift & A Curse by 5,000 album-equivalent units. The LP debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
So far, he has released music videos for “Whatsapp (Wassam)” and “Prada Dem.” He is currently on the road for The Bittersweet Tour with special guest Flo Milli. At the top of July, Gunna will head overseas alone for stops in Norway, Poland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The four-time Grammy nominee will also have a set at the Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C. on July 27.
