Lonzo Ball Challenges LaVar Ball’s Account of Family Divorce
Lonzo Ball has publicly disputed his father LaVar Ball’s narrative regarding his parents’ divorce, offering a different perspective on the family split.
The Ball family has long been a fixture in the sports world, presenting a united front through the meteoric rise of the three brothers in professional basketball. However, that public image has recently been tested as conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the end of LaVar and Tina Ball’s nearly three-decade marriage. While LaVar Ball has spoken openly about the separation, his son, Lonzo Ball, has stepped forward to provide a significantly different version of events.
Rather than allowing his father’s narrative to stand unchallenged, Lonzo Ball addressed the situation during a recent livestream. The NBA star pushed back against the idea that the split was a mutual or simple decision, stating that his mother, Tina, “didn’t want to leave” and was instead “forced to leave.” Lonzo further noted that he personally assisted his mother in moving into a new home and emphasized that she is doing well today.
Lonzo also took the opportunity to dispel online rumors suggesting that the divorce was linked to his father’s recent health struggles. Specifically, he clarified that the separation had no connection to the foot amputation LaVar underwent earlier this year following complications from diabetes. By addressing these points directly, Lonzo aimed to provide clarity on a sensitive family matter that has garnered significant public attention.
LaVar Ball had previously disclosed the divorce during a conversation with streamer N3on, claiming that Tina chose to end their long-standing marriage. While LaVar mentioned that he has since moved on and is seeing someone else, he refrained from detailing the specific circumstances that led to the dissolution of the marriage. Tina Ball, who was a standout basketball player at Cal State Los Angeles and a foundational figure in the development of her sons’ careers, has not issued a public statement regarding the conflicting accounts.
