Roots Picnic 2026: Jay-Z and Erykah Badu Lead Star-Studded Philadelphia Lineup

A Landmark Return to Philadelphia

The Roots and Live Nation Urban have officially unveiled the highly anticipated lineup for the 2026 Roots Picnic. Returning to its roots in Philadelphia, the two-day festival is set to take place on May 30 and May 31 at the scenic Belmont Plateau. This year’s event promises to be a historic celebration of music, culture, and community, marking a significant milestone in the festival’s long-standing legacy.

The festival’s headliners represent the pinnacle of hip-hop and R&B excellence. Rap icon Jay-Z is slated to headline the first day, delivering a rare and highly anticipated performance backed by The Roots—a collaboration that fans have been waiting over a decade to witness. The second day will be anchored by the legendary “First Lady of Neo-Soul,” Erykah Badu, whose presence ensures a soulful and transcendent closing experience for attendees.

An Eclectic Mix of R&B and Hip-Hop Talent

Beyond the headliners, the 2026 roster is packed with a diverse array of artists spanning multiple generations and genres. Confirmed performers include R&B powerhouse Brandy, the soulful Kehlani, rap veteran T.I., and the evocative sounds of Bilal and Destin Conrad. This curated selection highlights the festival’s commitment to showcasing both established icons and rising stars within the urban music landscape.

A major highlight of this year’s programming is a special tribute led by multi-instrumentalist Adam Blackstone. He will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Waiting to Exhale soundtrack, featuring a star-studded ensemble including Yolanda Adams, Ledisi, Tamar Braxton, and Andra Day. Additionally, super-producer Jermaine Dupri is set to take the stage for a “Jermaine Dupri and Friends” set, which promises to feature a series of high-profile surprise guests.

Vision and Community Impact

The move to Belmont Plateau and the securing of a Jay-Z and The Roots reunion are being hailed as “bucket-list” achievements by the festival organizers. Shawn Gee, manager of The Roots and president of Live Nation Urban, expressed his gratitude for the support received from local leadership. “After meeting with Mayor Cherelle Parker and hearing her vision for Philly 250, she truly inspired us to dream even bigger,” Gee noted. The festival aims to serve as a cornerstone event for the city’s broader cultural initiatives.

Tickets for the 2026 Roots Picnic are currently available for purchase via the official festival website. The event offers a tiered ticketing structure to accommodate various fan experiences, ranging from the 2-Day General Admission Experience starting at $250 to the 2-Day GA+ Experience at $425.
