Donald Trump thinks Colin Kaepernick should get a second chance but there is a caveat.

Colin Kaepernick’s peaceful protesting and activism has gotten him into a lot of trouble over the years when it pertains to his football career. Almost four years ago now, he was ostracized by the NFL and he has been working hard to get back in, ever since. Over the past few weeks, numerous men around the NFL have advocated for Kaepernick to be given a second chance, including Roger Goodell. Now, Donald Trump is joining in on the bandwagon

“I would love to see him get another shot but obviously he has to be able to play well,” Trump said via NBC. “If he can’t play well, I think that would be very unfair.”

Of course, Trump made sure to add a caveat to his comments, noting that he doesn’t want to see Kaepernick or any other player kneel during the National Anthem. The President continues to see it as a disrespectful gesture and his stance probably won’t change anytime soon.

“I don’t want to kneel, I don’t want to see people kneel for the national anthem, for the American flag,” Trump explained. “You stand, be proud, put your hand on your heart, salute if you’d like to do that. But you have to show respect. There are plenty of places and plenty of things you can protest.”

At this point, it remains unlikely that Kaepernick will be a starter in the NFL again although new reports suggest the Los Angeles Chargers might give him a workout. If so, that would be a huge development.
