YNW Melly’s Early Release Denied Despite COVID-19 Diagnosis
YNW Melly tested positive for the coronavirus but unfortunately, he has to stay behind bars.
The rapper filed a motion for a restricted release after contracting the disease at Broward County Jail. But the motion was denied, as per TMZ.
The 20-year-old’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, said he’s suffering from body aches, chills, and he’s having trouble breathing. “He still has headaches and body aches. Mr. Demons is 114 lbs. The jail is just ill-prepared if his diagnosis takes a turn for the worse,” Cohen said in legal documents filed on Monday, which call for the emergency motion for his conditional release. “They have not given them masks, or cleaning supplies that would be beneficial regarding his recovery.”
The families of Melly’s alleged victims expressed that they want him to stay in jail until he is tried after news broke that he had the deadly respiratory virus.
“While our firm and the family of Anthony Williams’ sympathize with anyone affected by COVID-19, we do not believe this justifies pretrial release,” the family’s legal representatives at Steinger, Greene & Feiner told TMZ. “He needs to remain in custody until a jury decides his fate.”
Aside from low-income Black and brown communities, prisons are slowly becoming a hotspot for the virus because it’s impossible to practice social distancing in overcrowded facilities. Additionally, there isn’t any protective gear for the inmates.
Do you think YNW Melly should be released?
