Waka Flocka: Atlanta Has Been Running Rap Longer Than Anywhere Else

Well, he’s not the first one to say it, but it will certainly resonate with a lot more critics coming from the prince of the trap.

Waka Flocka took to Instagram yesterday (April 13) to state a valid point of argument for those who have designated any particular city other than ATL as the epicenter of Hip Hop; Atlanta has been running the rap game for two decades!

Let’s debate about this! ??????

Even with some of the Hip Hop purists predictably stood up for the birthplace of Hip Hop culture, but in terms of the music, Waka’s argument is, “a Canadian man started basketball but we only have one team from Canada.” Nice jab, Waka.

With artistry from the likes of T.I., Goodie Mob, Outkast and other acts that call Atlanta home, there’s no doubt of the impact that the 404 had on the rap game. Bigger than the South as a whole? That’s the argument. Radio airwaves control and street accreditation from NOLA-based camps like No Limit and Cash Money, while labels in Texas like Rap-A-Lot and Swishahouse restructured industry politics, will bring more realistic context to this conversation. Until then, everybody will want to claim king.
