Usher and Victoria Monét to Be Honored at ASCAP’s 2024 Rhythm & Soul Music Awards

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has announced Usher and Victoria Monét will be honored at its 2024 Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. The ceremony takes place Thursday, June 27, in Los Angeles.  

Global icon Usher will be honored with the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award. This award recognizes ASCAP members who have significantly impacted music and culture and celebrates their success as creators and changemakers. Previous recipients include Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and D-Nice.

“Usher has owned the R&B crown for decades, captivating listeners with his incomparable vocal chops and songs that span the R&B and pop genres,” says Paul Williams, ASCAP board chair and president. “His charisma and performances are unmatched in the R&B world and his humanitarian impact is just as undeniable. It is an honor to present Usher with the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award.”

Monét, who won her first three Grammys this year, will be presented with the ASCAP Vanguard Award. This award celebrates ASCAP members whose work is helping shape the future of music.

“Victoria Monét has proven herself not only as an illuminating songwriter, but also as a flourishing artist and ASCAP member who continues to break barriers,” says Williams. “Her resilience, talent, and exemplary work ethic have helped her become a multi-award-winning singer and songwriter. She is well-deserving of the ASCAP Vanguard Award.”

As noted above, she won three awards at the 2024 Grammys, including Best New Artist and Best R&B Album for her debut, JAGUAR IIThe album, which also won Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, included her platinum-selling hit “On My Mama.” 

At the 2024 BET Awards, Monét is nominated for five awards, including Album of the Year. 

Usher has four nods at the BET Awards, including for Best Male R&B/Pop R&B Artist and Album of the Year (Coming Home). At the ceremony, which airs live Sunday, June 30, at 8 p.m., the “Good Good” singer will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
