Trey Songz Calls James Harden a “Certified Clown” For Mask Supporting Police
James Harden caught heat on social media on Thursday after the Houston Rockets posted a photo of the 2018 NBA MVP wearing a mask that supports police officers. Trey Songz took to Twitter to go after Harden for his support of police in such a polarizing moment.
“This is certified clown shit. I’ll say it for everybody who scared to,” Songz said on Twitter. Harden’s mask shows a blue and black patterned American flag, the same design used by supporters of the “Blue Lives Matter” movement.
Trey Songz has been heavy on his advocacy since George Floyd was killed buy police in Minneapolis. The singer has challenged other artists to donate their money to causes that support the movement and has hit the streets to protest.
The timing of Harden’s decision to openly support police comes as the nation grips with police brutality against Black men and women while at the same time seeking police reform. NBA athletes so far have been quiet about Harden’s decision to wear the mask.
Teammate of Harden and Superstar Point Guard Russell Westbrook has become one of the league leaders as far as advocacy on behalf of the black community in regard to police brutality. The 2017 MVP is producing a documentary on the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921.
Harden has not been active on social media since May and will likely face questions on the topic when the time comes.
