Trayvon Martin’s Mother Says George Floyd’s Death ‘Hit Differently’
Trayvon Martin’s death was the catalyst for the digital social movement that is globally known as the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
Eight years ago he was on his way home after buying some snacks from the store, while talking on the phone with his then-girlfriend, when George Zimmerman murdered him in cold blood.
Following the highly publicized case, Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges and that was the beginning of the uproar we’re witnessing in 2020.
Since the death of her 17-year-old son, Sybrina Fulton committed her life to activism and is eyeing a seat for the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners.
“At first, I didn’t want to be the voice for Trayvon after he died but I decided I have no choice. Now, I’m called to act, and called to serve,” Fulton said in a video posted to her Instagram.
“It became clear to me there’s an opportunity to turn our family’s tragedy into something positive for many other families.”It took my son being shot down in order for me to stand up. But I’m standing now,” she said
The authorities in charge of George Floyd’s case is already setting up the story to allow Chauvin to walk away. Hopefully, this isn’t another example of how the system doesn’t value black lives.
