Muni Long’s New Album ‘Revenge’: Everything We Know So Far

Muni Long has a new album on the way.

She released her debut project, Public Displays of Affection: The Album, in 2022. The 18-track LP featured fan favorites like “Time Machine,” “Another,” and Long’s breakout hit “Hrs & Hrs.”

The latter ballad, which went viral on TikTok and has garnered over 246 million Spotify streams, earned Long her first Grammy win (Best R&B Performance) at the 65th Grammy Awards.

In June 2023, nine months after releasing Public Displays of Affection, Long treated fans to her “Hrs & Hrs (Remix)” featuring R&B superstar Usher.

Three months later, Long introduced her new era of music with “Made For Me,” the first single from her forthcoming sophomore album.

What is Muni Long’s new album titled?

Muni Long’s second album is titled Revenge. She first revealed the title in an interview with Bru of Audacy and has since shared the title during her set on Chris Brown’s 11:11 Tour, which she is supporting.

What’s the meaning behind Revenge?

Revenge is more than what people may anticipate based on the title. In an interview with Audacy’s Bru, Muni Long explained what her sophomore album, Revenge, represents.

“When you think about revenge, you think about, ‘Oh, I’m gonna get you,’ but in my world, the best revenge is success, and continuing to show up and continuing to win and living my best life. That’s what this album is about,” Long noted.

She added, “The premise behind it is a bunch of relationship songs. I have a song about my best friend, songs about my relationship with cars, and things like that.”

What songs are on Revenge?

Made For Me” was released on Sept. 15, 2023, as the lead single from Revenge. The heartwarming ballad, produced by Bryan-Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri, has since been certified platinum by the RIAA for selling over one million equivalent units. Additionally, it peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart.

In an interview with Genius, Long shared the story behind creating “Made For Me,” including how the production evolved once she enlisted Cox and Dupri.

“I started ‘Made for Me’ at home with Jelli [Dorman], who is one of the engineers I work with. It was just piano [and a] vocal,” said Long. “So we took it to JD and Brian-Michael Cox, and they actually produced the record. JD was like, ‘I’m telling you, I’m telling you this record is a monster.’”

On Jan. 17, Long released the official music video for “Made For Me,” co-starring R&B singer and actor Luke James.

“I wanted to have fun with this video and really think outside of the box. It’s my little nod to A.I. mixed with Frankenstein,” Long explained. “If you want to find the perfect person in a limited dating pool, you might just have to create them! It’s only science fiction for now but with how fast technology is changing could this be our reality someday?”

On May 21, Long released her “Made For Me (Remix)” featuring Mariah Carey. “When I got the call from JD to work on the ‘Made For Me’ remix, I said yes immediately,” Carey said. “Muni is an amazing writer and performer, and this collaboration is a match made in heaven!”

It’s worth noting that Long has not confirmed if the remix will appear on her new album.

Make Me Forget,” the second single from Revenge, was released May 31. The song, which interpolates D’Angelo’s classic “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” was produced by Tricky Stewart, MOMBRU, and Jehreeus.

Regarding “Make Me Forget,” Long shared, “To me, it’s like a warm bath. It’s a love letter. It says, ‘You’re not perfect. We’ve got a lot of things to work on, but can we focus on the amazing feeling we have when we’re together?”

While there have only been two singles released thus far, Long has been previewing more music from Revenge during her set on Chris Brown’s 11:11 Tour.

Long’s setlist includes two unreleased tracks from her new album, including the heart-wrenching “Ruined Me.” Long sings, “After you / I’ll probably never love again / This kind of heartbreak don’t never end / Baby, you ruined me.”
