Muni Long Teases ‘Made for Me (Remix)’ With Mariah Carey
It looks like Muni Long and Mariah Carey have new music in the works.
Jermaine Dupri, who co-produced the song with Bryan-Michael Cox and Jordan XL, posted a snippet of Long’s “Made For Me (Remix)” with Carey on his Instagram. (Long later reposted the video to her Instagram.)
The video, seemingly filmed at Carey’s home studio, pans from the outside of a pink-lit recording booth to a wall that holds Carey’s 8x-platinum plaque for her 2005 album, The Emancipation of Mimi. (Dupri, a longtime collaborator of Carey, produced and co-wrote several of the album’s singles, including the Grammy-winning “We Belong Together.”)
“You know a song ain’t a song with out a remix baby @munilong,” Dupri wrote in the caption for the video, which features Carey’s mesmerizing vocals playing in the background.
A release date has not been confirmed for the remix at this time.
Long and Carey are no strangers to collaboration. She co-wrote the “A No No” and “Runway” from Carey’s 2018 album, Caution, as well as “Infinity” from #1 to Infinity (2015).
At the time of publication, “Made For Me” is No. 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Additionally, the heartwarming track is No. 3 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart. Last week, “Made For Me” tallied its 13th week at No. 1.
Speaking of No. 1, “Made For Me” reached the prime spot at urban radio in March after topping R&B radio last December.
“Made For Me” is the lead single from Long’s upcoming album, which will release sometime this year on Def Jam.
In an interview with Genius, Long shared the story behind creating “Made For Me.”
“I really want people to understand how epic the musical production side of this song really is. It is strong. I started ‘Made for Me’ at home with Jelli [Dorman], who is one of the engineers I work with. It was just piano vocal. So we took it to JD and Brian-Michael Cox, and they actually produced the record,” shared Long.
“Shout out to them for believing in a young artist. JD was like, ‘I’m telling you, I’m telling you this record is a monster.’ And I was like, ‘All right JD.’ He just texted me this morning and was like, ‘I be knowing. I told you so.’ He was right. I’m gonna give you that.”
Circling back to Long’s “Made For Me (Remix),” it’s not her first time teaming up with an R&B star. Last year, she released a remix of her 2021 hit “Hrs & Hrs” with Usher.
