Maeta’s ‘Through the Night’ Hits No. 1 at R&B Radio

Maeta’s single “Through The Night’ featuring Free Nationals has reached No. 1 at R&B radio. It’s the emerging singer’s first chart-topper on any airplay format.

“Through The Night” moved two spots this week from No. 3 to No. 1, with a gain of 148 spins, tallying 2,048 for an audience impression of six million.

The Camper-produced track, with writing support from Lucky Daye and Elijah Blake, was released as the first single from the Roc Nation artist’s 2023 EP, When I Hear Your Name.

“I want to show that love is complicated and it’s okay not to know why you feel the way you do,” Maeta told Rated R&B about When I Hear Your Name. “That’s one thing I’ve been trying to figure out. I think that we have to accept the fact that love is hard and complicated. And that’s what the project shows. I hope it comforts people who are going through that.”

Maeta also explained why “Through The Night” is the project’s closing track. “It ends with ‘Through the Night’ because it’s like, ‘Let’s just put all the bullsh*t aside. We’re bad for each other, but right now, I just wanna make love to you.’ [When I Hear Your Name] is kind of all over the place because it just goes up and down. But when you love somebody, you kind of just deal with it.”

When I Hear Your Name includes features from Lucky Daye, Ty Dolla $ign, James Fauntleroy and Ambré. Track three, “Anybody,” was co-written by SZA

Maeta recently confirmed on social media that her collaborative project with Kaytranada is on the way. She first teased the project with Rated R&B. “[There are] six songs, four written by Fallon [King] and two written by James Fauntleroy. I’m excited about that too,” she said.

Kaytranada produced “Questions” from When I Hear Your Name and “Teen Scene” from 2021’s Habits.

This summer, Maeta will join Chris Brown on his headlining 11:11 Tourwhich begins June 5 in Detroit.
