Macy Gray Announces ‘On How Life Is 25th Anniversary Tour’ North American Dates

Macy Gray is extending her On How Life Is 25th Anniversary Tour. The Grammy-winning singer has unveiled the dates for the North American leg.
She wrote on Instagram, “Becuz [sic] of the incredible response to the Europa 25th anniversary tour, a US leg has been added. come see us and thank you.”
The North American leg begins July 10 at House of Blues in Anaheim, California. Gray will play across the U.S. and Canada, making stops in Portland, Vancouver, Denver, Chicago, Houston and more, before concluding Aug. 16 in Los Angeles.
Before Gray launches the North American leg, she will perform across the U.K. and Europe. The latter leg, second overall, begins May 5 in Cheltenham, with stops in London, Amsterdam, Milan, Paris and more. She will wrap up June 20 in Zagreb, Croatia.
Tickets for the Europe/U.K. shows are on sale now. North American tickets go on sale Friday (March 21) at 10 a.m. local time.
Gray launched her global tour in Australia in summer 2024, where she performed the album in sequential order before diving into some of her other hits and fan favorites.
Gray’s upcoming tour will celebrate the milestone anniversary of her debut album, On How Life Is. The album was released July 27, 1999, via Clean Slate/Epic Records.
According to the Washington Post, On How Life Is only sold 20,000 copies in its first two weeks. Yet, the effort to continue pushing the project didn’t cease.
The genre-defying set peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart dated April 1, 2000. It included the lead single, “Do Something,” which sampled Nice & Smooth’s 1990 hit “Funky For You” and OutKast‘s 1994 anthem “Git Up, Git Out.”
The hip-hop soul tune earned Gray her first two Grammy nominations at the 42nd Grammy Awards, which took place in February 2000: Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Artist.
While Gray went home empty-handed, she returned the following year with a Grammy win for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “I Try,” the album’s second single.
“I Try” became Gray’s biggest hit to date, peaking at No. 5 on the Hot 100 — her lone top 10 hit on that chart. It also reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay, where it dominated for four weeks.
Gray performed “I Try” at the 43rd Grammy Awards, where the song also competed for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It lost in both categories — which also included Destiny’s Child‘s “Say My Name” — to U2’s “Beautiful Day.”
By Sept. 8, 2000, Macy Gray’s On How Life Is was certified 3x platinum by the RIAA for selling over three million copies in the U.S.
According to Entertainment Weekly, On How Life Is was among the top 25 best-selling albums of 2000. It ranked at No. 22 with 2.67 million copies sold. For context, the list was led by N*SYNC’s No Strings Attached, which sold 9.94 million copies.
