Ledisi, Kenny Lattimore’s ‘Perfect Stranger’ Debuts on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay Chart
Ledisi’s duet “Perfect Stranger” with Kenny Lattimore has landed on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart this week (dated Aug. 10).
The silky slow jam opens at No. 29 on the chart, led by October London‘s “Mulholland Drive” for a second consecutive week. It tallies both Ledisi and Lattimore’s 21st entry on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Ledisi last appeared on this chart in March with “Sell Me No Dreams,” which reached No. 18. Before that, in May 2023, the Grammy winner climbed atop the chart with “I Need To Know,” marking her second No. 1.
At R&B radio, monitored by Mediabase, “Perfect Stranger” posts at No. 26 this week after a 92-spin increase from the previous week, with over 624,000 audience impressions.
In an April interview, Ledisi explained that “Perfect Stranger” with Lattimore was more than just a duet between two artists.
“Kenny and I have been wanting to work together for forever and he’s been a friend for a long time,” Ledisi told BET. “We’re both Aries and we think about music the same because he can sing classical, gospel, and jazz, but he chose R&B too. We both have that.”
She added, “When my husband heard the song, he suggested that we have Kenny on the song. He said, ‘You guys will be great on this.’ Both singles are doing great on the charts. It all came together like it’s supposed to.”
“Perfect Stranger” is the third single from Ledisi’s latest album, Good Life, which was released March 1. The music video for “Perfect Stranger,” directed by her husband, Ron T. Young, premiered ahead of the album’s release.
Recently, Ledisi and Lattimore performed their duet acoustically at the Grammy Museum, which can be watched below.
Circling back to Good Life, it’s Ledisi’s second studio release on her Listen Back Entertainment label in conjunction with BMG.
In addition to Lattimore, the 13-track album features Butcher Brown, a jazz band from Richmond, Virginia.
“Good Life is a celebration of life’s joy, love, and resilience,” Ledisi explained to Rated R&B. “It captures unique moments in a musical journey that mirrors the human experience. Join me in finding beauty in our shared humanity through every note and lyric.”
Good Life is Ledisi’s first full-length original album since The Wild Card, released in August 2020. The set was featured on Rated R&B’s list of 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020.
Lattimore is still actively promoting his 2021 album, Here to Stay. The album includes “Take a Dose,” his first chart-topper on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in 25 years and his second overall. It also features “Never Knew,” which reached No. 4 on the chart in March 2024.
