ICYMI: boohooMAN Breaks Off Current and Future Collaborations with DaBaby
Following all of the backlash to his homophobic comments, DaBaby hit Twitter and gave what can be best described as an attempt at an apology. That apology was not enough as his boohooMAN partnership has been terminated.
In a message on social media, boohooMAN announced their decision to end their relationship.
“boohooMAN condemn the use of homophobic language and confirm we will no longer be working with DaBaby,” the brand wrote. “Diversity and inclusion are part of the boohoo Groups DNA and we pride ourselves on representing the diverse customers we serve across the globe. We stand by and support the LGBTQ+ community, and do not tolerate any hate speech or discrimination in any form.”
The clothing collection between DaBaby and boohooMAN was announced in June as an exclusive summer drop. “Well, we guess the news is out then… The rumors are true. boohooMAN x @dababy coming sooner than you think. Stay tuned for more info on the drop. Trust us, you do NOT wanna miss this.” wrote BoohooMan’s official Instagram page at the time of launch.
The collection was based on “Baby’s bold, creative and colorful style.” At the release, boohooMAN CEO, Samir Kamani stated “DaBaby is one of the hottest rappers out there right now” and “his style and music align perfectly with who we are as a brand.”
On Tuesday (July 28), DaBaby addressed all the messages online regarding his Rolling Loud performance.
“Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies,” DaBaby wrote.
What followed was a message to brands: “& for any brands, networks, or artists that like to profit off of black rappers influence on the culture, without understanding it or having the patience to deal with what comes with the position we play in our culture. Keep yo money next time us ‘NIGGAS’ human too.”
