Corinne Bailey Rae’s ‘Like a Star’ Goes Platinum
Alt-R&B singer Corinne Bailey Rae has won favor with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), recently securing her second award of the year within just two months.
“Like A Star,” the opening track from her self-titled debut album, has been certified platinum, with over one million equivalent units sold. It’s her second song release to receive a certification from the RIAA.
In August, “Put Your Records On,” Bailey Rae’s first song to catch fire, was certified 3x platinum, with over three million equivalent units sold.
Aside from the songs, Corinne Bailey Rae’s parent album, titled after the English singer and songwriter, was certified platinum six months after its release on June 20, 2006.
Returning to “Like A Star,” the beautiful tune was self-penned by Bailey Rae and produced by Steve Chrisanthou. It made a passable noise on various Billboard charts, including Adult R&B Airplay (No. 18) and Adult Pop Airplay (No. 33).
On the Billboard Hot 100, “Like A Star” reached No. 56, eight spots higher than its predecessor, “Put Your Records On,” which peaked at No. 64. Additionally, the former song went to No. 32 on the UK’s Official Singles chart.
“Like A Star” is among Bailey Rae’s most popular streaming tracks, with over 113 million streams on Spotify.
Further, “Like A Star” was nominated for Song of the Year at the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008.
In September 2023, Bailey Rae released Black Rainbows, a genre-spanning album of new material after a seven-year gap. The project was inspired by artworks that Theaster Gates collected at the Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago, Illinois.
