Chris Brown and Drake’s ‘No Guidance’ Goes Diamond: RIAA
Chris Brown is now a diamond-selling artist, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The R&B superstar’s 2019 hit “No Guidance” with rap heavyweight Drake has been certified 11x platinum by the RIAA.
The song, which includes co-writing support from Nija Charles and production work from Noah “40” Shebib, has sold over 11 million equivalent units in the U.S. It’s Brown’s best-selling song to date.
While “No Guidance” is Brown’s first RIAA diamond-certified hit, it’s Drake’s eighth. He has the second-most diamond-selling hits in history, behind rapper-turned-country singer Post Malone, who has nine.
“No Guidance,” which surpassed one billion streams on Spotify in March, topped several Billboard charts for multiple weeks:
- R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (27 weeks at No. 1)
- Adult R&B Airplay (11 weeks at No. 1)
- Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (10 weeks at No. 1)
- Hot R&B Songs (9 weeks at No. 1)
- R&B Digital Song Sales (5 weeks at No. 1)
- Rhythmic Airplay (4 weeks at No. 1)
Further, the Grammy-nominated song peaked at No. 5 on the coveted Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also dominated multiple radio formats, including rhythmic and urban.
“No Guidance” appears on Brown’s 2019 album, Indigo, which recently updated to 3x platinum by the RIAA for selling three million equivalent units. Released June 28, 2019, Indigo debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 108,000 equivalent album units sold in the first week.
By October 2019, Indigo was certified gold by the RIAA for selling 500,000 equivalent units in the U.S.
“No Guidance” was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 62nd Grammy Awards. PJ Morton ended up taking home the trophy for “Say So” featuring JoJo.
Speaking of Grammys, Brown is nominated for three awards at the 67th Grammy Awards, which takes place Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025. He’s up for Best R&B Performance (“Residuals“), Best R&B Album (11:11 Deluxe), and Best African Music Performance (“Sensational” featuring Davido and Lojay).
This marks Brown’s most Grammy nominations in a single year since 2015, where he was also nominated for three awards.
