Barber Dies From COVID-19 After Continuing To Cut Hair During Pandemic
According to several confirmed reports, a Mississippi barber died from complications of the novel coronavirus after his family said that he continued to give haircuts despite the warnings by authorities for social distancing.
Friends, family and the community of Brookhaven, Mississippi has been in utter shock at the sudden passing of 46 year Eugene Johnson, a well loved barber and pillar of the community.
“A great icon. He touched so many people’s lives here. And other places as well,” said his cousin Teegie Hargro, detailing how a Facebook group of barbers from around the country had paid tribute to him this weekend.
Black people are dying at a disproportionate rate from COVID-19 in several states across the country, especially in the south and throughout the country’s “Bible Belt.”
