Why Were Bow Wow And Soulja Boy Performing At SeaWorld?
Where else can you watch dolphins perform flips in the air and see Waka Flocka Flame remind you that he goes “Hard In Da Paint”? SeaWorld San Diego is breaking the glass ceiling this summer with a concert series featuring legendary Hip-Hop and R&B acts.
Social media blew up this week when Soulja Boy and Bow Wow seemingly randomly popped up at the long-running theme park to perform “Marco Polo.” TikToks and tweets went viral, and a full view of the video showed that this was not random, but rather an extended program called The Summer Spectacular. They have previously hosted concerts at the Bayside Amphitheater, but this is their inaugural effort to revisit the 90s and 2000s eras of Hip-Hop and R&B.
The lineup features Soulja and Bow performing this Saturday (July 12), Fat Joe on July 19, Flocka on July 26, Color Me Badd, Rob Base, Treach of Naughty by Nature and Young MC on Aug. 2, Trina on Aug. 9, Ginuwine on Aug. 16, Petey Pablo, Paul Wall, J-Kwon, and Bubba Sparxxx on Aug. 23.
The series began last month, with Baby Bash performing on June 21, and the Ying Yang Twins on June 28. The concerts, presented by Jam’N 95.7, are included in standard park admission; attendees can upgrade their tickets to acquire reserved seating or a VIP package with premium reserved seating and a free drink ticket. SeaWorld caught Bow Wow at a good time, as his March single “Use Me” featuring Chris Brown has been well received. Joey Crack released his latest LP, The World Changed On Me in December 2024, with features from Babyface, Ty Dolla $ign, Remy Ma, and more. However, new releases don’t matter much when the entire lineup all has such classic music.
