This past weekend, the Griselda rapper shared the news with his followers on social media, expressing his excitement over unveiling his forthcoming body of work to the public.
“I just made this album in a day,” Westside said in a video uploaded to Instagram. “I wanted to see if I still had it.” According to the artist, the album, which is currently untitled, will likely arrive sooner than later, as he’s pulling out all the stops to ensure a speedy release.
“Listen, I’m not even waiting. I want to drop this ASAP,” he added. “I gotta go figure out what I gotta do, how I gotta do it, whatever distribution, I want this out ASAP. This is to let people know.”
In the post’s caption, Westside Gunn reveals that his surprise project was an impromptu endeavor and born out a creative spurt as he was wrapping up the creation of Fly God Is an Awesome God 3.
“I came here to mix and master my album and was waiting for my files,” the Buffalo, NY, native wrote. “So I had played some beats and caught a vibe. [I] told him load it and made a joint. Then made another joint and then made another joint and now 24hrs later i made a new project.”
Westside Gunn has been one of the more prolific rappers in Hip-Hop since emerging during the early ’10s with his Hitler Wears Hermes mixtape series, releasing over two dozen projects over the past decade. The fashion and wrestling aficionado has dropped several releases within the past two years, including the solo projects And Then You Pray For Me and 10, as well as the collaborative effort Hall & Nash 2: The Original Version with Conway the Machine & The Alchemist.
And despite recurring retirement rumors, the Flygod shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
