Tyler, The Creator’s Was So Nervous About His Clipse “P.O.V.” Verse, He Recorded It Nearly 100 Times
Tyler, The Creator explained how being “nervous” about a recent collaboration resulted in him recording his verse multiple times. While speaking on the Hot 97 radio show, the California rapper explained that he re-recorded his “P.O.V.” verse “79 to 100 times” for the Clipse‘s Let God Sort Em Out album and almost backed out of the project.
“It took me about 79 to 100 times to do it, and I almost texted Pusha [T], ‘I don’t think this is gonna work,’” confessed the 34-year-old. “It’s been a few times I’ve gotten nervous and trying to nail that verse with two of my Mount Rushmores, produced by Mount Rushmore, was like I can’t f**k this up for me.”
The chart-topping musician continued to detail, “It took me so long to write that, and just trying to perfect it … Was really in that bi**h sweating. That ni**a Pusha sent me that before I went on tour, probably in April, and I ain’t get him that sh*t until [the] end of May, early June.”
When speaking on working with the Chromakopia creator, Pusha T shared a mutual respect.
“As a fan of the discography, Tyler is the number one Clipster,” championed the Virginia wordsmith. “He can tell me things about albums and the time periods and everything, from production to raps, when it comes to Clipse albums.”
Let God Sort Em Out reunited the brothers for their first album in 16 years. Released earlier this month, the acclaimed work features not only Tyler, The Creator, but also Kendrick Lamar, Nas, John Legend, Stove God Cooks, Ab-Liva, and more.
