Tinashe’s “Nasty” Gets Janet Jackson Co-Sign In Concert Clip
Tinashe‘s “Nasty” has earned a co-sign from one of the singer’s biggest inspirations. A video shared on X showcased Janet Jackson performing a mashup of the viral record and her 1986 track of the same name during her current Together Again tour. According to Complex, the clip comes from Ms. Jackson’s show at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater last weekend.
“Woahhhhh …” wrote the 31-year-old in awe of the dance break.
The moment comes as Tinashe’s “Nasty” reaches No. 69 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, jumping 21 spots for a new peak on the chart dated June 22, 2024. The song debuted on the chart on June 15 after an April 12 release date.

“It’s amazing. I’m just so thankful,” explained the R&B singer to Variety of the song’s success.
“I was saying this to my mom the other day, 10 years later, who would have thought? And I didn’t need this moment. I came to the place where I didn’t need that validation anymore. And I think that makes it even better because it’s like holy sh*t, the universe just worked in such mysterious ways.”
She added later, “I definitely think that everything that I’ve done up to now, all those grinding it out moments where I just had my head down and was just putting out the best music I could and being really consistent and making great visuals and things like that, it’s all led up to this.”
The “Nasty” ascension marks a new era for Tinashe, as she gears up to release her pending project QUANTUM BABY. In addition to new music, the singer announced her weed strain, Green T, in collaboration with RYTHM premium cannabis, launching this month in Pennsylvania, with wider availability to follow.
The hybrid strain, curated and enjoyed by the “Save Room For Us” performer, is described as “rich and earthy yet sweet and fruity producing a calm and creative energy.”
As loyal fans await the release of QUANTUM BABY, they can enjoy the “Nasty” ride as Tinashe dropped the Match My Freak EP on Tuesday (June 18). The release includes five additional remixes of the dance-ready track, including a ChopNotSlop version from OG Ron C and DJ Candlestick, and “Match My Speed,” Jersey Club take with UNIIQU3.
