Solange Was Supposed To Work With Katt Williams On ‘A Seat At The Table’
Solange‘s hiatus from music may be nearing its end sooner than you think.
The mother of one recently sat with Harper’s BAZAAR to discuss music, both old and new. Within the conversation, Sol confesses that she lives “an artistic life in service to herself,” which means she has “very few regrets.”
One, however, is that she was supposed to work with Katt Williams on her 2016 album, A Seat At The Table. She admittedly “fumbled the ball,” but didn’t expound further.
Writer Kaitlyn Greenidge admits that she evaded asking about new music directly, but instead asked Sol what sounds she was currently obsessed with and the answer might surprise some.
Greenidge wrote, “she says ‘the tuba’ and then grins at her own audacity.”
The “Cranes In The Sky” singer explained, “I love it. I’ve started writing music for the tuba, and I am trying to talk myself into releasing it, but I can only imagine the eye rolls from people being like, this b**ch hasn’t made an album.”
Solange continued, “It sounds like what the gut feels like to me. There’s a way that it takes up space that you can’t deny, and it also just feels very Black to me.”
The 37-year-old has been praised previously for her abstract works of art—not only with music, but also literal, tangible art.
In regards to seeking other forms of inspiration, Solange revealed that she’s enamored by history “with a capital H” and origin.
“A Seat at the Table, and the work that went into it, was all about origin: finding the way that history was generationally repeating itself or evolving and all of the ways that I found those stories within me,” she shared.
Since then, she’s been in deep thought about her own “origin story,” and expressed that she’s been doing “the deep therapeutic work of understanding her younger self and forgiving her.”
Her mother, Tina Knowles, praised her and her older sister, Beyoncé, for both gracing the covers of magazines on the same day.
Mama Tina took to Instagram, writing, “…@solangeknowles and @beyonce so proud of you both because yes !!! you two are gorgeous and successful but what I love the most about you both is your hearts. I love that you mind your business , block out the negative noise, don’t criticize or put other people down, you stay positive. Keep your nose to the grindstone and keep making magic happen with your ART and with your Heart . I love you both and could not be more proud of the kind, generous, loving, mothers, friends, daughters, kick butt smart business women and most of all the women that you have become. love your proud mom.”
