Missy Elliott Says She’s Open To A Collab With Xscape And SWV: “It’s Never Too Late”
Missy Elliott is ready to get in the studio with the Queens of R&B. During the press run for their upcoming tour, Xscape and SWV expressed interest in collaborating with Elliott on a new record.
As their voices overlapped while trying to answer the question about the groups syncing up musically, Kandi stated, “We’ve talked about it,” before Tiny revealed, “We talked about doing something with Missy, but [she’s] a little too busy.”
The Xscape member continued, “I feel like that would’ve been really dope. It would’ve been our first time working with [her]. She’s incredible.” Taj of SWV chimed in, “She’s so dope” and proposed the idea of running up on Missy at home to get the ball rolling.
Elliott saw the snippet of the groups’ interview on Twitter and responded early Tuesday morning. “Awwww. I would love to work with Xscape that’s the only girl group I didn’t get a chance to work with. Welp it’s never too late! A joint with SWV & Xscape would be fye,” tweeted the esteemed songwriter-producer.
The Virginia native worked with SWV in 1997 for “Can We” from the Booty Call soundtrack. It also served as the lead single from the trio’s third album, Release Some Tension.
The Timbaland production peaked at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 4 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap Songs.
SWV and Xscape’s Queens Of R&B tour was first announced back in March and is set to kick off on June 27. They will be joined by Mýa, Total, and 702.
