Kirk Franklin Announces Strategic Partnership with Uptown Records
Gospel icon Kirk Franklin has officially entered a new partnership with the legendary Uptown Records, marking a significant milestone in his storied career.
Gospel music legend Kirk Franklin is embarking on a transformative new chapter in his illustrious career, officially announcing a strategic partnership with the iconic Uptown Records. This collaboration, revealed on Tuesday (Sept. 8), aligns the Grammy Award-winning artist’s Fo Yo Soul Entertainment label and TRIBL Music Group with the historic label’s revitalized platform.
Reflecting on the new venture, the 56-year-old visionary expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception he has received from the label’s leadership. “To be a part of the Uptown family is a genuine honor,” Franklin stated in a press release. “I feel energized by the entire team’s enthusiasm and support already. It’s a blessing, and I’m beyond thankful and excited for what the future holds. Let’s make history together!”
A Legacy of Excellence
The partnership arrives as Uptown Records continues its resurgence following its 40th-anniversary celebration. Founded in 1986 by the late, visionary music executive Andre Harrell, the label remains a cornerstone of music history, having launched the careers of industry titans such as Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Heavy D, and Christopher Williams. By joining forces with Uptown, Franklin is positioning his future projects within a lineage of cultural impact and artistic innovation.
Natina Nimene, Uptown Executive and EVP of Urban Audience & Artist Relations for REPUBLIC Collective, praised Franklin’s enduring influence. “No one has shaped gospel and sustained its influence from one decade to the next quite like Kirk Franklin,” Nimene remarked. “His impact is transformational, and we are honored that he has entrusted Uptown as his partner for this next chapter and the incredible body of work he has planned.”
Looking Toward the Future
Phil Thornton, EVP of TRIBL Music Group and Insignia Assets, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the collaborative spirit driving the deal. “Kirk Franklin’s legacy and impact on music and culture are undeniable. At TRIBL, we’re proud to collaborate with Kirk, Fo Yo Soul, and Uptown Records to celebrate that legacy while helping amplify the music and vision still ahead.”
To commemorate the announcement, Franklin released the official music video for his latest single, “Thank You For Everything,” which features a powerful contribution from gospel luminary Karen Clark Sheard. The video, which premiered live on BET Her, serves as a testament to the high-caliber artistry fans can expect from this new partnership.
As Uptown Records continues to expand its roster—which currently includes artists like Yung Miami, G Herbo, and ATL Jacob—the addition of Kirk Franklin signals a bold commitment to bridging the gap between traditional gospel roots and contemporary musical landscapes.
