Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’ Album Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard 200

Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated album, GNX, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, amassing 319,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week ending Nov. 28, according to Luminate.

This marks the year’s sixth-largest debut week and the biggest first-week debut for a Hip-Hop album in 2024.

Of the album’s total units, 285,000 came from streaming equivalent albums (SEA), translating to an impressive 379.72 million on-demand official streams of the album’s 12 tracks.

These figures give GNX the distinction of having the third-biggest streaming week for an album in 2024, following the record-breaking numbers of Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, which posted 891.37 million and 428.54 million streams in its first and second weeks, respectively.

In addition to its streaming success, GNX also achieved 32,000 in traditional album sales, a testament to Lamar’s continued appeal across multiple formats. The album’s strong performance on streaming platforms helped it debut at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart, as well.

Released on Nov. 22, GNX marks Lamar’s fifth consecutive album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. He previously reached the summit with his previous releases Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022), DAMN. (2017), Untitled Unmastered (2016) and To Pimp a Butterfly (2015).

The Compton native has been enjoying a monstrous year, highlighted by the release of his seismic hit single, “Not Like Us,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for several weeks and earned Lamar several GRAMMY nominations, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

The arrival of GNX comes months ahead of his upcoming performance at the February 2025 Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans.
