Joe Budden Disses New Childish Gambino Album: “I Hate It!”

Joe Budden has voiced his strong opinions about Donald Glover’s latest release, Bando Stone and the New World, essentially ripping the album in a candid review on his Joe Budden Podcast.

According to Budden, the album is unimpressive in comparison to his previous material, going as far as to say that he “hates” the album.

“I hate it! I absolutely f**king hate it. I’m sorry,” the New Jersey rep said on Monday (July 29). “I know I’m gaining a reputation as a hater, fast,” he added.

Budden then attributed his honest assessment to his role as a media personality and talking head, as he’s found it hard to be politically correct in regards to his views and beleifs. “If you spoke as much as I have to speak for a living, eventually you’d have to start telling the truth about some things,” the 43-year-old said.

Budden specifically criticized the album for not featuring enough of a particular style he preferred, expressing that it was “crazy” in a way he didn’t appreciate. Despite his critical stance, he had mixed feelings about the track “No Excuses,” which he described as “bisexual” and “real alternative.” While he poked fun at the song and its premise, the track was one of the few on Bando Stone and the New World that he gave a positive review.

“Let him get in his bisexual bag!” Budden said of the track. “Nah, this song is like you’re taking all takers. Whoever trying to holla at the club, you down. It’s fire, though.”

Bando Stone and the New World, which marks Glover’s final project under his Childish Gambino moniker, has sparked a range of reactions, with reviews ranging from glowing to underwhelming. In terms of its commerical performance, Bando Stone and the New World has had a challenging start, selling 36,000 copies in its first week—a significant drop from the 101,000 copies sold by Glover’s previous album, Awaken, My Love! in 2016.
