J. Cole Drops Surprise Project ‘Might Delete Later’ Featuring Cam’ron, Gucci Mane, And More
J. Cole surprised us all when he dropped his new project Might Delete Later at midnight (April 5).
The 12-track EP includes musical assistance from Cam’ron, Gucci Mane, Ab-Soul, Bas, Ari Lennox, Young Dro, Central Cee, and Daylyt. Of all tracks, “7 Minute Drill” has stamped itself a stand-out, as he apparently takes shots at Kendrick Lamar in response to no holds barred single, “Like That.”
Cole aims at Lamar when he raps: “The rap beef ain’t realer than the sh*t I seen in Cumberland/ He averagin’ one hard verse like every thirty months or somethin’/ If he wasn’t dissin’, then we wouldn’t be discussin’ him/ Lord, don’t make me have to smoke this ni**a ’cause I f**k with him/ But push come to shove, on this mic, I will humble him.”
Elsewhere in the 3-minute and 30 second track, he spits: “Your first sh*t was classic, your last sh*t was tragic/ Your second sh*t put niggas to sleep, but they gassed it/ Your third sh*t was massive and that was your prime/ I was trailin’ right behind and I just now hit mine.”
Cole’s response to Kendrick comes after the Compton wordsmith rapped: “Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Motherf**k the Big 3, ni**a, it’s just big me/ Ni**a, bum, what? I’m really like that/ And your best work is a light pack/ Ni**a, Prince outlived Mike Jack’/ Ni**a, bum, ‘fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/ That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”
Elsewhere he calls out Drake with the line: “It’s time for him to prove that he’s a problem/ Ni**as clickin’ up, but cannot be legit, no 40 Water/ Get up with me/ F**k sneak dissin’, first-person shooter, I hope they came with three switches.”
In response, the 6 God told the crowd during a recent Florida show: “A lot of people asking me how I’m feeling. I got my head up high, my back straight. I’m 10 f**king toes down in Florida or anywhere else I go. And I know no matter what there’s not a ni**a on this Earth that could ever f**k with me in my life.”
The two-time Grammy-winning MC teased Might Delete Later with a two-part docu-style film that shows footage from the Its All A Blur tour with Drake. It also included new music and cameos from Drizzy, Sexyy Red, Lil Durk, Benny the Butcher, and Lil Yachty.
The video takes on a style reminiscent of the Smack DVD days, where fans could see raw, unfiltered day-in-the-life footage of their favorite rappers.
Might Delete Later Vol. 1 and 2 shows the North Carolina-native joking with Dreamville’s Ibrahim H. and Bas, as well as starring in an impromptu music video. Of all, the vlogs show Cole’s personality outside of music, more than anything else.
Check out both parts below as we await Cole’s forthcoming album, The Fall Off.
