Ice Cube Takes It To Church In “It’s My Ego” Music Video Ahead Of ‘Man Down’ Album
Ice Cube channels his inner reverend to deliver a message in the “It’s My Ego” music video. Directed by Gabriel “VIDEOGOD” Hart, the 55-year-old musician presides over a colorful church service that is interrupted by a masked gunman. At the end of the comical clip, the West Coast veteran gets the last laugh.
“I wanted to have fun, and I wanted to bring fun back to Hip-Hop,” shared Ice Cube of the music video while speaking with radio host Big Boy on Thursday night (Oct. 15) at a premiere event for the single in West Hollywood.
“It’s a fun video, and the song…a lot of people think ego is a bad thing but you know you should celebrate your ego. It makes you unique. We don’t all want to be the same. That would be boring. Be yourself, and celebrate who you are. Be proud of yourself, [and] proud of your ego.”
As the event continued, the “No Vaseline” rapper shared details of his upcoming album Man Down. He first announced the album in September 2023. Ice Cube confirmed he was in the studio exclusively on Chuck D’s RAPstation.
While speaking with Big Boy, the Hip-Hop veteran explained his motivations behind the project.
“Right after we finished the Mount Westmore record, I was still ready to go,” shared the BIG3 founder, referring to the 2022 collaborative effort from the supergroup formed with Cube, Snoop Dogg, E-40, and Too $hort.
He added later of the pending work, “It’s Ice Cube music. It’s music I think we all can relate to. If you listen to the whole album, you’ll know why I called it Man Down. And it’s a record that I’m proud of.”
The conversation also revealed features on Man Down, including Xzibit, Kurupt, and B-Real.
“No doubt. It’s been publicized that me and B-Real been tight, fell out, and got tight again. And that’s how it’s supposed to be. Family, sometimes you fall out, but when it’s real, you come back together.”
