Doechii Teases “Denial Is A River” Show With Star-Studded Clip
In March when Doechii dropped the JT-assisted “Alter Ego,” she proclaimed 2024: “The year of the swamp.” Since putting the world on notice, the Florida rapper has expanded her muddy waters to include the proclaimed Alligator Bites Never Heal mixtape, which VIBE named as the 3rd best Hip-Hop project to release this year, standout performances, a growing fanbase, and multiple Grammy nominations.
With days left in the year and the accolades above, the 26-year-old is not slowing down, teasing a new year that will continue her momentum. On Thursday (Dec. 26), the rapper shared a teaser clip for the “Denial Is A River” show. Inspired by Family Matters in aesthetic, the clip features appearances from Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, Baby Tate, Teezo Touchdown, SiR, Earl Sweatshirt (in his Brad Pitt bag), and more.
While it is not clear whether the preview precedes an actual series or a standalone creative music video for the ABNH standout. Doechii fans and fellow musicians alike are on the edge of their seats anticipating the January 2025 release date.
“I love being a doechii stan i’m always fed,” wrote rapper Monaleo in Doechii’s comment section on Instagram. Willow Smith added, “This epic.” SZA noted, “Oh I’m SATTT,” followed by Chloe Bailey’s excited “cannot wait.” GloRilla proclaimed the teaser as “Hardddddd.”
“Denial Is A River,” tells the unfortunate story of Doechii discovering her boyfriend at the time was unfaithful and stepped outside of their relationship with a paramour of the same gender. The vivid rap song explores her experience with the fallout as well as her mental health, substance use, and journey through the music industry.
“I was really afraid of how raw and honest I was being in that record,” detailed Doechii to Rolling Stone about “Denial Is A River.” “And I know that a lot of my fans really, really love that record because I made it humorous, but it actually is very, very dark.”
She continued, “This song is really just like people hearing how I am, the inner dialogue that I’m having with myself. Like, OK, maybe you should really unpack that.”
