Tinashe Earns New RIAA Certification for ‘Nasty’
Tinashe has gained a new certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her viral single “Nasty” has been certified gold.
The Ricky Reed and Zack Sekoff-produced bop has sold over 500,000 equivalent units in the U.S.
“Nasty” is Tinashe’s second solo RIAA certification following her platinum-selling debut single, “2 On,” and her fourth award overall.
Here’s an overview of Tinashe’s RIAA certifications to date:
- “2 On,” platinum, one million units sold (as of November 2014)
- “All My Friends,” Snakehips featuring Tinashe and Chance the Rapper, platinum (as of January 2018)
- “Body Language,” Kid Ink featuring Usher and Tinashe, platinum (as of January 2019)
- “Nasty,” gold (as of November 2024)
“Nasty” was released as the lead single from Tinashe’s seventh album, Quantum Baby. Two months after its release and after going viral across social media platforms, “Nasty” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. It earned Tinashe her first solo entry on the popular singles chart, where it spent 16 weeks, peaking at No. 61.
Regarding “Nasty,” Tinashe shared, “It’s meant to make you feel sexy, confident, let loose and maybe even unleash some of that sluttiness inside you. We all need a daily reminder that we are our own muses; here’s the inspiration to embrace it.”
At the time of this writing, “Nasty” has amassed 171 million streams on Spotify. The official music video, directed by Jonah Haber, has over 37 million views on YouTube.
Following “Nasty,” Tinashe released two separate remixes of the song featuring Chlöe (“Nasty Girl Remix“) and Tyga (“Nasty XXX Remix“).
Quantum Baby was released Aug. 16 via Ricky Reed‘s Nice Life Recording Company. The eight-track offering also included the second single, “Getting No Sleep.”
