GloRilla’s ‘GLORIOUS’ Earns Highest First-Week Sales From A Female Rapper In 2024
Yeah, Glo!
GloRilla‘s debut studio album, Glorious, has accumulated the highest first-week sales of any album released by a female rapper in 2024.
Billboard reports that the project featuring singles “TGIF,” “Hollon,” and more sold 69,000 equivalent album units within its first week of release, landing at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. This marks the VIBE cover star’s first project to land in the top 10.
Several women in Hip-Hop have dropped studio albums this year, including Glo’s frequent collaborator Megan Thee Stallion, whose self-titled release sold 64,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, just 5,000 short of matching Glo’s record. Latto’s impressive Sugar Honey Iced Tea was acclaimed by fans, and sold 29,000 album-equivalent units the week of its release. Ice Spice’s first studio album, Y2K!, raked in 28,000 album-equivalent units. Glo’s “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME” collaborator Sexyy Red’s In Sexyy We Trust pushed 27,000 its first week.
“Last year, I was supposed to drop my debut album, but I was still just getting used to stuff and working a lot,” Glo shared with Billboard of the album’s late arrival. “When the top of the year came, I had the project basically done. I was like, ‘OK, I gotta give them the mixtape before I give them the album,’ because I went the whole year without dropping anything. That’s why I said I was gonna give them the mixtape first, get em’ back used to me first, give ’em a feel of me, and then that’s gonna prep me for the album. The mixtape did good and did what it was supposed to do, which prepped me for my album.”
Glorious features appearances from Latto, Sexyy Red, Muni Long, Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, Chandler Moore, Megan Thee Stallion, BossMan Dlow, T-Pain, and Fridayy.
