Alicia Keys Debuts New Song, “Kaleidoscope,” From Broadway Musical

Alicia Keys released a new song, “Kaleidoscope,” from her Broadway musical, HELL’S KITCHEN.

The vibrant record is the first release from the musical’s soundtrack, which was written by Keys and features herself and Maleah Joi Moon—who stars in the play—on vocals. The pair performed the song during its television debut on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon this past Friday (March 22).

Of the record, Keys revealed on Instagram that stems from the part in the production where “Ali (Moon) meets Ms. Lisa Jane [Kecia Lewis]. Ali’s world opens up, like she never knew before, about what’s possible for her.”

Ahead of previews starting on Thursday (Mar. 28), Keys gushed in the aforementioned Instagram post, “Remember where dreams begin. Hell’s Kitchen is a story about a 17 year old girl Ali and her single mother, Jersey, fighting for many things: a way in the world, independence, 2nd chances, a muse that shows you, you can be more then u think u can. As the lead producer, one of my favorite things is how inter-generational it is. Everyone can relate to this New York story.

On her connection with the budding starlet, Maleah Joi, the “If I Ain’t Got You” singer expressed, “Discovering @maleahjoimoon who plays Ali took years to find! Someone who can act, sing, dance and embody that NY spirit! Not easy.” She also prided Moon on her first television appearance, liking it to when she appeared on Oprah to perform Songs From A Minor.

HELL’S KITCHEN on Broadway formally opens on April 20. Keys and Adam Blackstone are behind the musical arrangements with music consulting from Tom Kitt and music direction being helmed by Lily Ling.
