MTV Gives Two Reality Stars The Boot Following Inappropriate Tweets
Companies across the globe have been dropping employees from their staff after hearing about their racially insensitive tweets. MTV joins that list of companies after terminating two of their reality stars, Dee Nguyen and Taylor Selfridge due to some controversial past tweets the two have made in the past.
Dee Nguyen was one of the stars on MTV’s The Challenge that is now currently airing. On Monday, MTV made a statement about the offensive comments made by Nguyen regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.
“As a result of Dee Nguyen’s offensive comments on the Black Lives Matter movement, we have severed ties with her. Out of respect for our Challengers, we’ll air our season as planned. We strongly condemn systemic racism and stand with those raising their voices against injustice,” the statement read.
It all began when the ex-MTV star responded to a fan about her not participating in Black Out Tuesday, a movement on social media created to stand in solidarity with Black Lives across the nation. “Wake up! People are dying,” the fan wrote. “People die every f*cking day. U don’t know me or what I do,” Nguyen responded before also writing, “IDK why some of you think I’m anti-BLM. I’ve been saying that since the day I lost my virginity.” The tweets were later deleted.
Just a day after, Taylor Selfridge was put into the hot seat after some of her old tweets from 2021 resurfaced. “We have to greet everyone at work but sometimes I won’t greet the Black people because they scare me,” one tweet read. Another offensive tweet written by the ex-MTV star read, “My uncle is dating an Asian. Aunt Ping please make me sushi.”
Selfridge and her boyfriend Cory Wharton were the stars of Teen Mom OG At Home: Cory and Taylor’s Baby Special before MTV pulled the segment due to the insensitive language.
Since then, both Nguyen and Selfridge have apologized for the irresponsible tweeting.
